Stem Cells of the Dental Pulp
author
Abstract:
Dental Pulp Stem Cells (DPSCs) can be found within the cell rich zone of dental pulp. These stem cells, under specific stimuli, differentiate into many cell types which have wide therapeutic applications. The dental stem cells are derived from both deciduous and permanent teeth. The viable dental stem cells are very simple to collect, without any mortality and morbidity. Dental pulp stem cells can be obtained from the patient’s vital pulp with the help of stem cell markers, which help in the identification of stem cells. It has been observed that SHED (stem cells from the human exfoliated deciduous teeth) has the potential to differentiate into functional vascular endothelial cells by a process that resembles that of vasculogenesis. By placing the dental pulp stem cells on biodegradable scaffolds, tooth-like tissues have been generated. Although dental tissues are regenerated, the success rate for the correct arrangement of a natural tooth is only 15-20%. Stem cells play a vital role in treating various lives threatening diseases. As conclusion, the identification of several types of epithelial and mesenchymal stem cells in the tooth is a significant achievement. But still, the control of morphogenesis and cytodifferentiation is a challenge that necessitates a thorough understanding of the cellular and the molecular events which are involved in the development, repair and the regeneration of teeth. Until the stem cells in the dental pulp are completely explored, they still remain a mystery inside the tooth. Key Words: Pulp, Stem cell, Tooth, Regeneration.

Transdifferentiation of Human Dental Pulp Stem Cells Into Oligoprogenitor Cells
Introduction: The nerve fibers in central nervous system are surrounded by myelin sheet which is formed by oligodendrocytes. Cell therapy based on oligodendrocytes and their precursors transplantation can hold a promising alternative treatment for myelin sheet repair in demyelinating diseases. Methods: Human Dental Pulp Stem Cells (hDPSCs) are noninvasive, autologous and easy available s...
full textDifferent isolation methods of dental pulp stem cells
Considering the ease of isolation and high expansion potential of pulp stem/progenitor cells isolated from wisdom and primary teeth they have been implicated as the most reliable autologous cell source in dental tissue engineering. Meanwhile, different isolation methods have remarkable impacts on the expansion potential of adult stem cells. In enzymatic digestion method extracted teeth as denta...

full textSurvival of Dental Pulp Stem Cells: The effect of Soymilk and Milk
Background & Objectives: Dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) are alternate source of mesenchymal stem cells. Subsequent to tooth avulsion and fracture, DPSCs can play a prominent role in tissue regeneration. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of soymilk and milk on survival of dental pulp stem cells. Materials & Methods: DPSCs were isolated from 16 freshly extracted incisors of 5 rabbi...

Objective(s): Biocompatibility of dental biomaterials plays a critical role in regeneration of dental stem cells. The aim of present study was to evaluate the effects of novel biomaterials of TheraCal-LC (TheraCal; Bisco), Angelus mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA; Angelus), calcium-enriched mixture (CEM; BioniqueDent), and Biodentine (Septodont) on viability of human de...

AIMS Our aims were to isolate dental pulp stem cells, to cultivate them in various media and to investigate their basic biological properties and phenotype. METHODS 16 lines of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) were isolated from an impacted third molar. After enzymatic dissociation of dental pulp, DPSCs were cultivated in modified cultivation media for mesenchymal adult progenitor cells contain...
